cry this site, on the ground that the Asylum would be within view of the Colonial Hospital windows and might thus exercise a depressing influence on the patients, directed that a new site should be found.
Accordingly an Equally Eligible Suburban Site, nearly opposite to and not far from the Colonial Hospital, was suggested by me, and my selection having been referred to an independent Naval and Military Board Consisting of Principal Medical Officers in the Colony, was recommended by them for adoption Chiefly on the ground of its distance from European Residences.
As the Alternative site appears to have met with the Approval of all parties concerned, as far back as November 1880, I can see no reason why the construction of the Asylum should be any longer deferred. If Agreeable therefore to the Secretary of State, I shall be happy to prepare the designs and Detailed drawings of the proposed new Establishment, for transmission to the Colony, after inspection by the proper medical authorities in this Country to whom no doubt His Lordship would first submit them.
